Hi to all LRD3 owners question ?
I have a LRD3 2005 have an issue with led lights on boat trailer and 7x5 box trailer brake's and park light's work and so does indicator's also. But they seem to flash or is it pulsate every couple of seconds. So I read on here to install resistor's just before female plug on my D3 four in total one for brake light's, one for park light's and one for the left indicator and one for the right indicator. Thinking it would solve the problem which it has not. Still left and right indicators are flashing or pulsating. But now I have the trailer light come on every time I use my indicator's and I have no reverse sensor's operating anymore. Do I have to bite the bullet and purchase a LED Trailer Module which I really do not want to get having a few trailers that I use having to always plug and unplug in between trailer plug and car plug. Can anyone advise me what I have done wrong by only installing resistor's to just before female plug on my D3 or do I have to add something else to make it work properly. Any advice would be much appreciated and thanks to those who do respond in advance cheers !
Okay -
1st problem - you have added the resistors into the cars circuit so it thinks a trailer is attached all the time.
The resistors need to go on the trailer so only when the trailer is connected it is detected.
2nd problem - with D3 the car "pulses" the light circuits to detect blown bulbs, this is what is making the LEDs "twinkle ". This is solved by installing relays into the circuits so that only when true 12v is applied do the lights illuminate. There are some diagrammes / explanations on the forum how to do this.
The simplest answer is to be a module from linear electronic designs - they simply work plug it in and you are done!
I have taken your advice and removed the resistors as they made the car think that it has a trailer attached all the time and I lost the use of reverse parking sensors and I am going to be getting the module.
Hi I made my own module with less than 100 bucks worth of parts and 2 hrs of crimping connectors to wires... works a treat and easily removed to store!
the diagram I used came from here somewhere..
I use a piece of velcro tape to hold it on the trailer drawbar when in use, all my trailers now have leds on them, so I can transfer the device as required.
