British PM's speech.
I must confess to being torn between two viewpoints. Part of me knows that the unfolding military intervention by western powers is continuing a cycle of violence that has no prospect whatever of solving the region's problems in the long term, that striking at IS has the unintended but inevitable result of taking pressure off some low quality and unrepresentative regimes, and that the civilian cost of conducting this sort of operation will bring misery to innocent people and feed into the next round of hurt and disenfranchised people signing up to hit back at the west in any way possible.
The other part of me is a little bit ashamed at being satisfied at the prospect of showing a bunch of cowards and murderous thugs what a real army and real soldiers look like.
