    ADR Seat belt requirements

As I start getting my 73 SIII ready for registration I am trying to identify the seat belt requirements. Whereas I have found specifics on from what year I need a speedo (I don't), to not needing a windscreen washer (only wiper), I can't find anything on seat belt requirements. I suspect I only require a lap belt but want to confirm that.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

Seat belts were state/territory legislation, so you need to talk to your local authority, and treat with caution advice from outside your territory.

My guess is that seat belts are required at that date, but the type is, as you suspect, not specified. But that is only my guess!

My very early 72 series 3 had non retractable lap sash seat belts fitted as standard. However my 73 Haflinger only has lap belts.

Thanks. As mine is a soft top lightweight, it can't be fitted with a sash. My understanding is that the vehicle only needs to be fitted with what it originally came with so I assume lap belts are sufficient for registration. As pointed out by John though I need to check specifically for ACT.

Second Edition ADRs apply to your vehicle.
    Have a look here:

Thanks all. A lap/sash on my lightweight will be an issue since there is nowehere to attach it, nor has there ever been somewehere to attach it.

Would there be an expectation therefore for the car to be re-engineered to accommodate a sash or is there a ruling somewhere that allows some flexibility if the cars original design doesn't allow for it?

Second edition ADR Rule 4 applies to your vehicle.

    4.3 states
Where seat belts are provided next to a side wall they shall provide for both pelvic and upper torso restraint.
A Moke does not have a side wall so only requires lap type belts.
So, here's the question, would your Landrover be considered to have a side wall. In my opinion, if there is nothing above the door, no. Having said that, my 101 has lap/sash seat belts and the sash is bolted to the top of the rear bulkhead.
Sorry I haven't answered your question.

I suppose you should also consider which is safest.
Obviously the money spent on engineering and the belts themselves will be well spent in the case of a bad smash or roll over, especially with no cab at all.
I had my S3 soft top engineered and I attached the reel for the retractable on a double plated section of the tub just below the lip.
