When travelling in convoy with a 200 series with similar setup of touring gear and roof top tent, I was always backing off when following the 200 and overtaking slower vehicles on the open road. I also used less fuel at every fuel stop. My car is a 2010 D4 3.0SE.


I had a couple of drags with my son in law's 4.8 petrol Patrol in the NT last year. He had a roof top tent and I had a 1800kg camper trailer. I left him for dead on both occasions. This was starting from about 60kph, not standing start and the first time he reckoned he was in the wrong gear and wanted a rerun!

I suspect a 200 driver tried to get away from me yesterday on a few km section of local dirt back-road that resembled a rally course. My on-demand 30mm lift came handy on the rougher sections that also triggered TC but his dust was my limiting factor. I might have to grab the video before it gets over-written.

Edit: Not a 200, only its litte brother.

Don't really know what any of that proves really. Both vehicles are non standard.

Handy if you ever need to outrun a 200 series on a Station track I guess...

Interesting that the 200 was slightly faster off the line and then the D4 took over. Probably because speed on gravel means nothing to a D4, especially with Llams at +30, but the 200 backed off because it was too rough!!

Toyota develops max torque about 600 revs lower than the D4.
