South African Defenders ?

Is it true that in Australia we have Defenders built in South Africa and Defenders built in England? How do you tell which is which,Ive been quoted $5000 cheaper for a brand new South African Defender, does this sound like bull**** or not.Im thinking of holding back awhile to see if the new V6 diesel from the D3 finds its way into the Defender. :?

yes its true....dunno about the price difference though.

    sounds like salesman talk (smelly)

mine was built in south africa.....i think they all are now.
the compliance plate i think tells where it was built

the worst thing about someone else building them, other than the poms, is theres a chance they may not leak!!!!!

    And doesn't leak.

Well, not throiugh the roof, anyway.

Obviously a mistake on the production line.

Mine is a 2002 Defender and is built in the UK. My fathers is an 04 Defender purchased April 04 and is a South African one. Has the manufacturer info on a plate visable when you open the drivers door. My brothers Defender was purchased last month 12/04 and is a UK manufactured one. Go figure???

Mine is an '04 model and built in South-Africa. I doubt if there is a difference in the build quality and surely not significant enough to warrant a big price difference. Agree with Defenderzook ... sounds like sales bull!

So it would seem that LRA is sourcing Defenders from 2 countries and STILL seems determined to kill them off.

    Oops wrong thread. (Bastards).

Henry did you specifically try for one that was from your old country (as opposed to The Old Country)

No Vlad .. guess it was luck of the draw! At the time I knew they were imported from both the UK and SA but I was of the opinion there is no significant difference so I didn't care. Although the sticker of the South-African flag on the back of greylandy has a dual purpose now

I wish we could get the South African one with the BMW straight six in it.

    Now that would be awesome.

$5000 sounds a bit odd, I would have to agree with the others, sounds like a load of bull to me. Matt
