RRS Demo Car - What should I pay?

Hi All,
I have sold my Disco4 (2010) and am looking for RRS SDV6 SE. I will need some advice as the RRS has so many options and it make it very difficult to compare and narrow down the prices.

1. I am considering a demo model. Is it worth getting a demo model compared to a brand new car? What should be the price difference between a demo vs new?

2. Am looking at a 2013 and 2014 manufacturing date although the cars are registered in 2014. What should be a guide on the drop in price every year it gets older?

Any good advice and nego strategies are really appreciated.

For me i would want it to be definitely 2014 stamped because theoretically its already a year old on paper when you go to sell it!! Even though you might only get it in 2014 its a year old already!

As for the price i would have to think about it and see what difference i would pay i mean for me to get something that was a demo compared to new i would want like at least $8 to $10k difference for it to be worth while otherwise ill pay the extra and drive the thing off the show room floor thanks and know its been looked after.

Depending on options its hard to know a price as there is so many various options and packages to get its really hard to know a specific price. But as said it would want to be a decent difference to make it worth while getting a demo model.

Thats what i would do any way.

Hi Nat,I would sift through carsales .com and get a real feel for the market.Prices can vary from state to state and just from the need of dealers to move stock on,and even the time of the month for their quota's.I bought a D4 3 weeks ago with the thought of picking up a demo.It had 6800 klms on it,and had no tech pack(voice recognition,front sensors and navigation) for which the supposed price for tech pack was $4000.I ended up with brand new with tech pack for $2900 over the demo price.I still see second hand or demo's on the market more expensive than what I paid "drive away".At around 120k or so for a sport there must be reasonable margins for the dealer to discount and make the sale because the market at that price is more limited than the guy turning over Hyundai I 30's.Good luck and don't be afraid to bargain.

I got my D4 cheap as to it wasn't a demo but just the last model before the update still plated 2014 just MY13 style saved a fair bit there got it for $92k i think with active diff and steering column which add an extra $2k for both i was pretty happy with the deal.

But definitely trawl car point.com and see whats around and prices!

I was going to buy a low km or demo SE D4 and ended up with a new HSE D4 for a price that was more on par with the SE.

As the others said, get a feel for the market with carsales etc and then you'll know when you've got a good deal. I nearly paid $3000 more for a demo than I finally paid for a new one. Timing plays a big part, I got mine last November during a factory promotion and saved a few thousand because of that but that didn't account for the discount off new price that I got. My brother used to work in car finance and told me that the more the dealer sells the better return they get as when they cross sales levels the return increases and applies to ALL the cars sold that month. Bottom line is that if they're near the next level it can be worth their while to just break even or even wear a loss on one vehicle as they get the loss back plus heaps more if they exceed targets. If you canb be patient you'll save heaps but you do need to know the market and that knowledge only comes by doing the research by scouring the internet car sites.

I've always understood that the manufacture date is the one to go by.

I bought a 5 month old MY12 in 2011 as an ex demo with 1000k on the clock. The car I got before was also an ex demo (Nissan) with 300km on the clock.

No regrets and would happily do it again....if the offered model meets my needs.

For an LR, you get the benefit of not having to wait months, but the downside is you have no option for most extras other than floor mats etc, no choice of paint etc .
LR also did the health check and what not before I took. All up saved around $8000.

Unfortunately, the warranty was what was left from the manufacture date (or was it registration date??). (Unlike nissan which was full term from the day I picked it up)

All the prices I got on demos from 2 dealers were "ok" less than sticker price but not enough to go yeah here's my deposit. These were HSE D4's with options so probably ok if I was planning on spending $105-110k, they didn't have many SE demos either just selling one the day I looked and another dealer had none due to the MY15 model having some previous options as standard.
A broker suggested a new car MY15 with the options and colour I wanted and the price was in my bracket sub $90k.
Unfortunately ( for the broker ) he went for a quick close within 3 hours and when I said no pulled the deal. The car broker then got dirty the next day with the old sour grapes trick, even trying to offer $1k more just on the trade-in, pretty poor way of doing business as after he pulled the deal I went back to dealer #1 and cut an identical deal on the trade which meant I was also getting a better new car with a higher spec. More than happy with how the dealer one of Sydney's largest handled it all. I am also going with them on the finance and not via the broker whose finance id used before. Never been as looked after by a dealer before, even corporate servicing so mention your co. Name or wife's co. They might chuck that in on a new car! At the end of the day everything's negotiable, play one off the other, know the market price is and what you want to pay to deliver the bottom line it will take to buy.
The dealer with the demo HSE didn't really get a chance to present as they didn't quite grasp I was in the market to buy that week but good comparison to have.
Another good thing is to try and do it via phone and email so they don't lose your keys while they value your trade-in. Happy shopping, RRS must be a weapon vs a D4!
