			Defender 130 vibration

					Hi Guys,

I have a 2013 defender 130 and there are significant vibrations sent through the vehicle at between 60-65 km/h in fourth gear, but I've noticed it also happens in fifth at the same speed.

I'm not a mechanic but I feel it could have something to do with a prop shaft. Does anyone have any ideas?

					Hi
 Need a bit more info.
Does it happen only when accelerating, decelerating,
in neutral at the vibrating speed, in all gears at that speed, where do you feel the vibration, seat base, steering wheel, etc.
Have you slid under the car and just looked at front and rear prop shaft bolts arent loose or the wheel nuts are not loose.

 Cheers
 Michael.

Best way to eliminate the propshafts is to first remove the front prop, lock the CDL drive landy in the conditions where it vibrates, see if it does it, go back home, refit front shaft, remove rear, repeat, back to shed, refit rear shaft, unlock CDL. Take the dodgy one into a shaft shop and they'll fix it.

Probably not the issue - but when my MY13 started a similar vibration - was only a gently vibration though - it turned out the circlip holding the cross shaft in the front diff had fallen off. The cross shaft was floating free and I assume caused some vibration under load. Might be worth getting it looked at by the dealer... Just in case it's the same issue as apparently they can cause some interesting issues.

I had the same problem. Turned out to be a buggered uni joint. You will want to get onto it cause the vibration will screw your rubber gearbox/tcase mounts. While your under there grab a 9/16 spanner and tighten the rear drive shaft bolts where it meets the handbrake drum.

 Good luck

Oh I'd better mention if you remove the rear prop, put some spacer washers and the tailshaft nuts back on or you'll be searching for your handbrake drum.

Thanks everyone. I will check all of those things. I have it booked into the dealer in Newcastle for a service next week so if I can't find the source of the problem, hopefully they can.

It's still under warranty, so I'm not too concerned, but I'm not happy unless my vehicle is perfect
