Hi Gazzafish,
Check the "plastic" cooling water outlet housing on top of the engine at the front where the top hose connects. The water leaks into the centre of the V and evaporates with the heat. You usually don't find it until the leak is so bad that it fills the V about 2 litres of coolant and you get evidence of a leak from dripping around the front of the gearbox.
The housing is relatively cheap and easy to fit.
The two clips on the EGR pipes are a bit of a bugger so buy two new ones when you buy the outlet housing. Bit of a bugger this I have a spare one in my shed, you are in Melbourne.
I have had three crack and start to leak. Small coolant loss over a long period of time.
Never had a leaking EGR cooler, my advice stay well away from them, a living nightmare especially if you decide to replace them. That's my opinion, I have replaced one for a different reason than a coolant leak.,

(highly likely)
