MY99 RR P38 HSE 4.6 (Thor) gone (to Tasmania)
2020 Subaru Impreza S ('SWMBO's Express' )
2023 Ineos Grenadier Trialmaster (diesel)
I have the same 2001 HSE as yours, also had the same problem you describe.
When you are driving over 40 k/ph, do you hear an audible click when you hit the set button?
On mine it turned out to be the vacuum switch on the brake pedal.
If you remove the trim panels under the steering wheel, you will be able to see two switches activated by the brake pedal, one is the stop lights, the other has a vacuum tube attached.
There is a little plunger that can be reset by pushing it in and releasing, which may be your problem.
I had to replace that switch, not an expensive part, under $30 from memory.
As soon as the new switch went in it has been working perfectly ever since.
Could also be a leaky hose somewhere, here's a link to a previous thread on my experience, hope that helps!
Cruise control fixed!
Hi and welcome.
Check the vacuum hose under bonnet first.
Get a copy of the Rave CD from Dave's Shop . Its full of info.
