    Dealer paint and interior protection

I have ordered a D4 MY 2015, and the dealer is already offering paint or/and interior protection @ around 1K each!
    What is this?

2015 D4 probably the most amazing yet, why get a RR?

Had a visit from the "Ming Mole" did you

It's how the dealerships get some extra cash.

Not a viable product - better to have the car detailed and polished/waxed each 12 months and a better result.

It's a ripoff, the car is sent to a detailer, usually near the dealer, I'd say a deatailer would charge $500 max for both jobs

Same goes for tinting, which we were offered, LR Dealer wanted $650 Solartint was $280

    Don't do it

Don't waste your time with the paint or interior protection. You can do better yourself. There are several posts on AULRO that give you some tips on what to use. Try this one for starters.

Yes just received the same unbeatable offers for our new TDV6 as well. Agree with all comments this is a high profit high margin process only designed to lighten your wallet and feel good that the dealership was looking after you.

I priced up a custom tint for ours, dark from the front windows back and a high UV cut and low tint for the front and from Tint-A-Car it is around the $480 mark. If the leather interior is as good as they reckon it just needs a wipe with a chamois and a vacuum to remove the dust which is abrasive of course. As with any interior never let stains stay, remove immediately with a bit of detergent and water

Paintwork on ours will probably get the 3M clear wrap as it is one of our tagalong vehicles so they all get plenty of bush pinstripes and whilst we love our Meguirs polish I am getting a little tired of policing a block of flats every two months

    Regards

    Rob

Agree with all the comments here don't bother with the crap dealers offer its a waste of money!! I have the 3M film on my car its called ventureshield and i love it and would recommend it to anyone, i also have the 3M window tint called crystalline its quite expensive but very very good at blocking heat out. The Land Rover paint is bloody good i find it tough as which is good.

Nat, you have wrapped your car or just part of it? I'm seriously considering a total wrap just for the added protection against stone chips & the ignorant bastards at shopping centres, could you give me an idea of the cost

    Cheers

Hi Tiddy, i got just the front of the car done so thats the mirror covers 1/3 way up the bonnet also the headlights and all of the front bumper. That cost $1000 (cash) installed but you can buy it from about $600 but jeez its really hard to install!! So definitely worth the extra. Im guessing it would be bloody expensive to do all of the car possibly $3000 maybe. Ive got one spot where it got cut as i can only guess a bloody big rock hit it but otherwise its been perfect no stone chips anywhere, really happy with it and i wouldn't get a car with out it now. Mine was installed before i picked it up which was a big advantage never been on the road without it.

We have a detailer who comes to the office once a fortnight.

He applies a product called fireglaze, charged $200.00 to do the wife's D3, including claying the car first.

He's done my last three cars, and the results are good. Bird poo, tree sap etc doesn't get a hold. He also revealed he does the same thing for dealers, who charge up to $1,800 (for a Ferrari) (and tell him to be frugal with the product).

The product is worth it, but shop around. Its a way for the stealer to improve his margin...
