That front outrigger is bad. It will need careful alignment and reinforcing.

						Hi all looking for some expert advise/guidance. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I am looking for some repairs done on partially rusted chassis (land rover series 2 - 1960). Chassis is fully stripped and will be sandblasted. Due to logistical reasons, I can't bring/move chassis down to the shop and was wondering if any one here knows decent welder (melbourne south east) that can sort of give estimate of repair cost for reasonable rates.
Two areas that need attention are mentioned below (please see attached pictures). Also, i am NOT looking to weld replacement parts instead, work with existing chassis and repair the box sections with thicker steel and some reinforcements ( Basically improving the perfection).
1. Rear cross member including outer riggers.
2. Front leg (leaf hanger) right hand side.

						Thanks Isuzurover. Chassis will besandblasted in near future, before any work is carried out. Since my weldingskills are less than impressive, I really don’t want to tackle this part.
The rear member should be patch-able ( I am currently doing mine now). Understanding your concern to not use repair panels, but this may be the easiest (cheapest) thing to do. Welding it is relatively easy, it's the fabrication that takes time and bending up big lengths of heavy plate can't be formed neatly with a vice and a hammer.
With the rear x member you will probably find the inside is corroded in areas that are not visible on the outside. There are stiffeners and reinforcing inside that will take time to fabricate.
The front section will need a big overlap to provide the required strength (no neat seam welds here).
If you have everything ready to go (good access, rust cut out, new sections matched) it should not take more than a few hours welding time.

						Hi Mathernet,
You are right inside is all rotten and the rear cross member is beyond repair somewhat same story with front hanger too. i wasn't aware of any reinforcement in rear cross member. Now if that's the case i am think to cut and weld one of the old box chassis i saw the other day and basically join them with some strenghtening around the corner's.
Decision Decision!!

You will have to be careful to get the right one. Some come with spring hangers and some without. There are variations for military chassis too.
