    9500lb monster winch v 1t of bull

Not sure if this is the right forum, but had an interesting recovery last week.
Brother in law gave me his old 9500lb monster winch loaded with dyneema last year ( he needed a newer bigger one for his Nissan) which I put on the defender, never had the need for a winch but it was a freebie .
Got a snatch block and some straps last Chrissy off the kids to go with it.
So nearly 18 months latter and I still hadn't used it, then my old angus bull gets stuck in the creek where I can't get the tractor to and there's no way of getting him out, he's been stuck for a couple of days.
I remember the winch, but there's no straight pull and I can only get to as close as 25 mtrs , about 4 mtrs above him. Luckily there's some small trees around the creek which I could tie the pulley to so we could pull him in the right direction and nearly 4 hrs latter we had him out.
Wouldn't have got him out alive without the pulley, only other option would have been to drag him out sideways with a chain and the tractor.
That dyneema rope sure made life easy during multiple pulls and repositioning, dragging it up and down through the scrub.
Made a sling round his chest with my tree trunk protector and one round his neck with my bridle strap.
Winch struggled, almost stopping during the first few pulls, one wrap on the drum. That mud sure has some suction.
Didn't like his chances , Poor bugger couldn't stand for 24hrs but alls good and he's off with the herd now, don't reckon he'll fell like doing any work for awhile.
Must remember to thank the brother in law.

Poor Bull, I bet he was a bit battered and bruised, but at least he survived. Hopefully he will thankyou when he is able to get back to work!
I bet you learned alot about recovery from that exercise.

No pics unfortunately, didn't think of it at the time- was a 35*day and I was covered in mud. Thankfully we were in some shade down in creek.
