Grainy I phone 5 photos when put on facebook,..Why?

I'm hopeless on computer stuff, Wifey is just a little bit better.
Recently, when taking photos with her i Phone 5 & putting them on facebook, I've noticed that they're very grainy.
Recently one of Wifey's friends set up her I phone so that she could take selfies,...could this affect the clarity of normal photographs?
Any ideas here as to why these images are grainy?

Hmm seems very odd because my iPhone 5s which isn't much different took gorgeous photos and they went on Facebook well. It doesn't appear to have any settings in the camera. I can't think why it would be.

Any chance you sent tbe thumbnails instead of the photos?
Did you set up an image size to send?
