    Thumbs up alternator fault

hello everyone,i was driving my p38 yesterday and the alt fault lite came on and the motor shut down causing me to coast to the kerb.i tried to start the motor again but it would turn over ok but would not fire....gave the cables from the alt a nudge and pulled out the three engine fault relays in the fuse box and plugged them back in and tried to start it again and it fired up and off I went and got home.started the engine this morning and it seems fine I'm just worried that this is a precursor to a bigger problem has this happened to anyone else all help is appreciated, cheers.

My experiences of alternator failure just give a warning light as the battery is no longer being charged, the engine still runs until the battery dies. Sounds more like a fuel or CPS issue if the engine conks out. What voltage are you getting at the battery with and without the engine running. The engine fuse boxes are also prone to cracks on the PCB

If gems the engine will die at 10.8 volts.

The exact same thing happened to me a while ago, and it turned out to be the positive stud at the back of the alternator had come loose, and would make intermittent contact.
