On a recent trip to Boree Creek we came across a pair of 80 Inch Series 1's after a tip off from our son and also info from the Local publican. These had been parked here many years ago and were left to rot - probably would have ended up in a scrap yard. We contacted the current owner and negotiated a price and arranged to pick them up. We can't believe our luck, as we now have enough bits to complete several restorations.

We went down yesterday, armed with a heap of recovery gear, including a pair of trailer axle / wheel assemblies, as one of the vehicles had a front axle removed and the other was missing rear hubs etc (all parts were still there)
Recovery worked out well as we had to winch the cars past a whole array of obstacles. A mate of ours came down today with a second trailer, loaded the other car and drove back home (1040km round trip)

One of the cars in the pics below has the most unmolested engine I have ever seen, even the wiring loom looks in very good condition. It is probably in such good condition because it was jammed up against a tree and the bonnet was difficult to open

We put a battery in, just for fun when we got home and the engine turns over, off the original starter button.

Winching the second car on, using a winch off the Defender and snatch block off the front of the trailer

 A few other parts

The current owner told us a bit of the history of these vehicles. One was owned all it's registered life by a Boree Creek farmer and the other by a farmer a bit out of town.

The second car is at a mates place locally and we will pick it up tomorrow and post some more pics. The engine of the second isn't complete.

The only downside of the 2 days was that I finished up in Lockhart Hospital, late on Friday afternoon, with a crunched finger tip. The doctor poked the flesh back in, stitched it, rearranged the nail bed, removed the nail and bandaged it all up, in and out in under an hour, and how wonderful the staff were. This was due to an altercation with an EVIL Hi Lift jack, which I had used a thousand times before, but now sought revenge.

We are in the process of helping our father-in-law move from home into a retirement village (resort), Packing and downsizing is quite a challenge for him, at the end of the day, he is 90. This is taking all our spare time, especially the 2.5 hour trip to his place.

Anyhow, here are a few more pics of the 2 80's. I am still pimching myself that we got these for the price we did.

I absolutely love the sign writing on the doors

We got a lot of good parts with these which will assist in a few restorations, possibly one of these, Some of the goodies include

a steering box and relay box without any play (if that is possible)
 2 complete D tail lights
3 complete firewall mounted front parking lights
 1 Speedo
1 horn button / dipper switch almost complete
Almost a complete set of hoops
A 1.6 litre engine which turns over
 2 completely rust free firewalls
The unit on the front of the air filter
 etc etc

The downside - both chassis' are in poor condition. one with a lot of rust and the other with a front end prang.

Great finds and lots of relatively rare bits.

I may have to grab one of those seat boxes! when you're not looking!

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting. You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
