    Discos everywhere!

Just moved the family back to South Australia and have noticed alot more D3s D4s and RRS here than in Canberra! The dealers here must have done a roaring trade the past eight years!!

I have not had many waves unfortunately, although I am getting some satisfaction from embarrassing my wife!

The Centurion performed well on the trip - gees it must have been close to its GVM - very comfortable. Love those HSE seats! Sadly it appears our second car (2008 Territory) did not fare so well: it is in the shop getting new front lower control arms and getting some treatment to its' ZF six-speed. Oh the irony!

How many Ks/what year is the Territory???? There is an unofficial recal on 2007 models, ours has been done.Ask a dealer as they dont volounteer the info,a suspension shop told me.
Also if its loud clunks going around corners it may not be the control arms, ours wasnt. It was the bolts that secure the K frame that were loose. It only holds the motor/gearbox/front diff together
    Whats up with the gearbox????
Ours is a 2006 Turbo Territory Ghia, only done 56000ks and owned by an 87 year old before us
Looking at getting the tranny and steel pan conversion done next service.

    Hi Andrew,

It is a 2008 AWD - has done 122k. Lower ball joints were shot, completely shot. They were getting a bit noisy but sounds awful now. Mechanic reckoned the trip, fully loaded was probably the icing on the cake. The transmission sleeve extension housing was knackered, leaked out about a litre of fluid in one spot - god knows how kuch was left in there. The box has been good but it stalled a few times going from reverse to drive in the past few days. Has been a very reliable car to date. I laughed when the guy said it would be easier to change the whole control arm! Apparently he owns a Range Rover Vogue.

    Permanent move James ?

I've heard some ugly stories about the lower ball joint in the Terry, sounds like the same engineers did the D3 suspension !

Happy to hear your D3 is going like a champ

Yep, permanent move Mick. Happy to be back in SA Great! Will get to spend a bit more time in the dirt: heading out towards Marree early in the new year. Will get to see how the AT3s handle it.

It's funny isn't it? There are a few similarities wit the Terry and Disco that one would never expect given how different the vehicles are! I am a bit worried though: my wife is driving her folks new Audi while the Terry is being fixed...

    Discos everywhere!

Cool ! Did you abandon Fort Fumble ?

Dunno if you should be worried about the Audi, when I was shopping recently i didn't rate them at all ... And I thought the ones I looked at positively sucked compares to my disco (wife agreed). Terry was second place in my shopping, that straight six is a great motor.

    Happy trails in SA !

Oh and I hope you can find a better LR shop in SA than the clowns in the ACT !

    Yeah, out of the fort!

I think there are some good indy mechanics here but welcome any recommendations!

I've noticed a lot of D3/4's around lately in Perth, but then again Im a new (3-4months) owner of a D3 so Im probably paying more attention to them compared to what I was previously doing

Peter Brown at PCB is excellent for all things Disco in Adelaide and if you need auto electrical stuff either Peter or our sparky Tim at Belair Rd Auto Electrical is very knowledgable as well.

Suggest you plan a bit of time exploring the Flinders Ranges as we have plenty of excellent tracks and accommodation up there. Closer to Adelaide the Southern Flinders spots include; Bendleby Ranges, Horse shoe Rim amongst others around Quorn. As well you have plenty of sand driving around Beachport and Robe as well as the Border Track. So you don't have to go that far to test an AT3 as we have plenty of spots. Closer to Adelaide consider Saunders Gorge for a bit of fun

    Regards

    Rob

There must be one less around at the moment, as one of your mob seems to have escaped. Spotted a nice looking white D4 with SA plates on the Snowy Mts Hwy just outside Tumut a couple of days before Christmas.

    Cheers,
    Jon
