What engine oil for 2.2 puma?

    Hi Guys,

I want to change my engine oil every 5000km, not 20,000 as recommended and was hoping someone more knowledgable than myself would know what to use?

Also, are oil filters readily available in shops like supercheap etc?

Thanks in advance for your help,

    Nathan

    hi Nat

I recommend Liqui-Moly Trade Australia - NetLube make sure your oil has approvals!
With oil filter's make sure they are from an Original equipment company not "china brand" there are plenty of Land Rover part suppliers who can help with filters.

    Cheers

Castrol reckons it's Magnatec 5W-30 A5 is the go. (and Landrover recommend Castrol apparently) I had a lot of trouble tracking it down in Cairns though.

Penrite says either HPR 5 SAE 5W-40 or HPR diesel 5w-40. I found the HPR diesel in Repco.

    Sorry not sure about filters...

Yep I had the same idea, but a bit of research and advice suggested 10,000 would be more appropriate. She is booked in for just before New Year… prob about 12,000 by then

LR dealer(service manager) in Melbourne told me to get this which they also use. I have used it for the second time so far. Not cheap though, got it from Supercheap auto. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1419659019.023495.jpg

Even though its not exactly what you asked for, I'll offer a similar suggestion to a couple of the others. Disconnect your EGR valve and change oil at 10,000km intervals. The oil will stay a LOT cleaner without the EGR working, not to mention the other benefits to the engine.

Go with a top shelf oil. If you want no compromise, I'd recommend either of these two. Hard to find in shops, but easy to get online from the mobil distributors.

Notice that oil doesn't have a very good modern diesel engine rating. API 'CF' is atleast a 20 year old oil classification and ACEA A3/B3 A3/B4 really only relates to passenger car engines not operating under arduous conditions.

API CJ-4 and ACEA 'E' ratings are the safest choice for an overworked engine i.e. a 2.2L engine pushing a 2+ ton barn shed.
