Ignition switch will not turn off the motor (Defender 110 MY12) - have to stall it! Ignition switch will not turn off the motor (Defender 110 MY12) - have to stall it!

					Hi all,

The ignition switch when turned off has not tuned off the motor. It turns off the radio, electric window switches and the air conditioner.

To stop the engine you have to stall the car. This has happened three times (twice in two days) now. Has anyone experienced this? Does anyone know the probable cause?

Looking for some guidance before I tell the dealer at next service, or should I panic now and get it to a dealer quickly.

 Cheers Brad

					Hi Brad,

I'm no mechanic but that sounds like to much compression. I'd be getting to the dealer asap. I'll be watching this thread with plenty of interest because I have a MY12 110.

 Cheers,

 Danial.

That happened to me in a TDI.
It was due to crap stopping the electric fuel solenoid working properly.
Yours being a late model wont have that problem but I would still suspect the solenoid.
See if you can feel or hear it click as someone turns the ignition on and off.

On a puma engine, the butterfly valve on the air intake should close at shutdown, giving a second method of stopping the engine. Its controlled by the ecu, so it sounds a bit like the ecu is continuing to get a run signal from the ignition switch.
