    Attn Sniegy.TBC instal,update required???

    Hi Pete.
I think I may have found a mistake in your instructions,OR there is a possible wiring change in the MY 14.OR,Im reading the instructions wrong.

Here are your instructions for later D4s posted in the D4 Trailer Brake controller thread.
    Hey Ron,
Good idea, I like the 150%
The wiring Loom for AUS has always been in the L/H/R cubby area.

Ron the vehicle has two park light circuits. One goes to pin 7 which is what we require. But one goes to pin 5 which is where we need our blue wire (from the electric trailer brake unit) to go to.
The loom has a black wire (Park Light circuit) which then splits into 2 & goes off to pin 5 & pin 7. When the wire splits it goes from a single black wire through a soldered & glued connector to become a brown wire(goes to pin 5) & a black wire which (goes to pin 7) in the standard position.
So, in the L/H/R cubby area where the loom lives, The soldered/glued connector is wrapped in tape (It used to be on the outside but the loom has changed) you need to peel back the tape to find this & cut as close as possible to the glue & connect your blue wire to it.
Some people like to run the wiring to the rear of the black plug. In the photo's of mine (Early D4) i connected it under the tail light. If you like you can run the cable to the rear of the plug & connect there if you wish.

HTH in some way, any questions please feel free to ask away.
    Cheers

OK from what I have just found. My MY14 D4 has the splice connection in the L/H cubby box as mentioned. However the wire comes from a connector above as a BROWN wire,it splices as described into a BROWN wire and a BLACK wire out,the pair of wires then exit in the loom thru the gromet into the tail light. The difference in your description is you say BLACK with the BROWN added, this is clearly opposite.

Wierd Al posted this pic of his splice,he states his D4 is an Oct 2013 build. Not 100% clear, but it seems his MAY be as you describe BLACK in BLACK plus a BROWN out.

Anybody else done a recent TBC instal on a late model D4???
    Thanks

I would say your reading the instructions wrong😉
The wiring is correct as it has been on all the vehicles.
It comes from the plug (as this is the trailer wiring harness) goes from 1 wire into 2. You cut the brown wire from as close as possible to the glued section & join your blue wire to it.
This then goes through the rear grommet to the trailer plug.
    Cheers

    Thankyou.
Was making DOUBLE SURE before cutting the loom.

To be TRIPLE SURE,I cut the BROWN wire next to the BLACK wire and connect my BLUE floating 12V+ to the BROWN wire. The RED trailer brake wire gets spliced into the red wire in the same loom.
Thanks for your patience and quick reply.
    Cheers

Whenever I need to defuse a bomb, I always remember what the instructor said:

"White, you are right. Red, you are dead"

    Hasn't failed me so far...

Before cutting anything I went thru the trailer connection and made sure everything was correct.Land Rover did trick me for a short time, the pin numbers do match standard wiring but they lay on their side
Once I got all the pins correct I cut the brown wire and lost the corect pin
All done, still waiting for 1 circuit breaker thats "IN THE POST" and I can power up the spotties and TBC.

And being a LR D4 if you cut the wrong one the consequences will be similar, if not the cost.
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

Not only that Dave. The tight arses dont give you ANY freeplay in the harneses at all.It would be difficult to fix a wrong cut.

That is correct, the wires that exit the glued joint as a pair, That is the brown wire you cut.

    Cheers

Crikey. This sounds like the DIY job from hell. Well done for taking it on.
