Strange to think i have a Pan Am certificate commemorating the first 747 flight to Australia, my parents were on it.

My Caribou flights weren't commercial but by god they were monotonous.

I did a four day maintenance trip from Darwin to Learmonth in a Caribou in Summer. We all took turns flying to relieve the boredom.

I would have to disagree, the 747 has always been called a Jumbo/Jumbo Jet.

If you looked at a A340 would you say theres a jumbo?

If you looked at a 777 would you say Jumbo jet?

Interesting to see if Boeing have the rights to the world Jumbo Jet? or is it just something thasts stuck with the plane since day one.

I suspect the high forehead ay have contributed to the nick name

What's forgotten is the original design was for a military transporter, which Boeing lost the comp, hence the unusual cockpit location to facitate doors in the nose.

I read recently also that they are not selling what they need to sell despite one carrier acting as their lifeline. The Neo version was said to be unlikely because of the huge development costs for relatively negligible sales.
