Daniel Ricciardo has smashed the Formula 1 driver lap record in the latest episode of Top Gear.

Ricciardo is the latest in a long line of F1 drivers to be invited into the show to take part in the ?Star in a Reasonably Priced Car? challenge.

The 25-year-old took the show's big-standard Suzuki Liana around the Top Gear Test Track in a stunning 1m42.1s, a whopping seven tenths of a second faster than Hamilton's previous benchmark which had stood for two years.

Airing in the UK overnight, Ricciardo had to skip out on the final day of F1's first pre-season test last Wednesday, where new teammate Daniil Kvyat was scheduled to drive, to film his lap.


Getting the call-up by the legendary Top Gear program is just the latest sign of Ricciardo's worldwide popularity off the back of his breakthrough 2014 season, where he took his first three race wins and emerged as the only challenger to the dominant Mercedes.
