Ex Army TD5 defender Hardtop sliding Windows

Hi All,

Are the sliding windows from the Ex-Army TD5 defenders a standard part?

If so where would one purchase them from?

They are exactly what i'm after for my Survey Perentie, i'm getting sick of not being able to look over my shoulder and as a car that i sleep in it would be nice to have a couple more opening windows for the summer!

I fitted side panels off one of these Remediation TD5s to my Defender, but after much thought I had the sliding windows converted to fixed panes. None of them would close properly because the little and brittle plastic catches were all broken and all of the windows were loose. I'm sure it could have all been fixed but it didn't appeal to me. I wasn't interested in another source of dust and rattles.

I'm not sure if this is correct or not but my research at the time suggested the same windows were fitted to Sth African Defenders (Army I'm assuming) which is kind of backed up here Defender 110 Tdi Pick Up Paint work so maybe get in touch with them and find out where they source them from.

Unless of course someone else chimes in with more accurate and factually correct information as opposed to my guesswork

I have sliding windows in my Carry All, they give good viewing but are useless for accessing the back.

I want to swap my passenger one out for one of these

Thanks for the info guys - i have considered the gull wings before but yet to see a set that are the right size - the hardtop has a support beam up the middle of the panel that i would prefer to keep and installing a gull wing would require cutting it out. Essentially i would need 4 smaller gullwing windows to achieve what i want and it's been too hard to find someone that will do it. I thought some sliding windows would solve 90% of my problems and could be opened to let more air in on hot days. Given i sleep in the back thought that sliding would also be better as openable from the inside - but the same problem exists - they're not a common size.

I think the african spec windows are what i'm after but i'd take gull wings of the same size as well depending on price (assuming these will cost some serious $$$ for 4.

Dingsy, if you want a sliding window from a County then I have one I replaced with a gullwing window-the catch is broken but if nothing else you can hold it up and say 'yeah that'll do' or 'better grow a longer neck instead'.

I think that you will find that the sliding windows in the side of the Remediation TD5 Defenders are the same windows that are in the 110 county and Defender wagons. However IIRC the windows in the rear of the truck cabs are shorter than the windows on the side of the county/Defender. I can measure on the weekend if you like.

If you look around you can find sliding windows fitted to the hard tops of SIIa and SIII Land Rovers that fit above the rib in the side panels. The size of the front window in this Defender trials vehicle.

i don't think so - that's what i originally thought, i've attached a couple of photos - two standard defender windows won't fit lengthways. That trials vehicle looks great though!

I've seriously been thinking about fitting a 110 wagon roof and SIII or 110 sides (if I can find some) to my FFR, but I am considering removing the original windows and gluing windows inside over the holes (like they glue windscreens these days) and then putting that one way vision film over the glass pre-painted to match the cam body work.

That way I'd have the windowless appearance from outside but would have vision from inside out.

They wouldn't open however.

The windows in the pictures certainly look like the same window as on the back of a truck cab. I'm basing that judgement on the shape, the amount they protrude, the latches and apparent dimensions.
