Range Rover Sport TD6 Issues New Car

Hi Guys First post here so Hello.

Purchased a Range Rover sport TD6 brand new in 2012 the last model before the new came.
It has done only 30,000 ks and so far under warranty the following things have been replaced new

Hand Brake Actuator
Power steering pump Leak
Turbo seal Leak
Air compressor
Coolant housing

The warranty is expiring in March next month and wondering should i get the extended warranty which is 4000 bucks for extra 2 years or take the gamble and see if she hangs on ok.

Family car driven like faamily car no offroad.

Check out post here about extended warranty. From what I can make out the so called genuine article is a bit of a rip off, you are better off looking at the Allianz premium product directly from Allianz, not thru LR. If you are in say RACV or NRMA and have road side assist then that part doesn't matter, but the Allianz premium product covers more stuff with less exclusions than the LR product for a similar price. You can also elect to have an excess to reduce the premium a bit. At least this was the situation late last year.

Jk, interesting list. Most people don't get that much stuff replaced in 100,000km or more, so there should be nothing else to go wrong, touch wood, especially with your low km usage.


It would be interesting to hear the history of why they were all replaced or what led LR to the conclusion that these things needed replacing. My compressor is still original at 175,000km, my EPB went at about 90,000km and I haven't had a problem with any of the other things on your list.


I think mine had a heap of stuff replaced under warranty due to the steering vibration problem that plagued 2010 models, but that was the previous owner and I have not had anything reoccur. I've had the car since 50,000km.

Had me confused for awhile. Then I saw new. Sould be Range Rover TDV6 L320. I think.

We dont drive the vehicle much any way so i am thinking we should be ok without the extended warranty.

I will be taking the rig to dealer for full thorough inspection before the warranty expires.

I am lookimg for RRS TSBs. Is there any place where i can go through all the latest TSB and get mine checked?

My D4 has just come out of warranty.I had very few issues during warranty,low mileage as well,38K.

I had an inspection by a good Indi,as well as the local dealer.They both picked up a couple of very minor issues,the dealer also picked up a noise in the rear E diff.

They wanted to recheck it in a month,and take another oil sample.I dropped it off today,so will wait and see what they say.

The dealer inspection was $187,possibly the best $187 i have ever spent.They have been excellent and very helpful,which is worth noting as the vehicle has always been serviced by the Indi.

I went without extended warranty.I took it out on the last D2 i had and didn't use it.

Some take it out for resale,but it won't help me as i will be keeping this vehicle for at least the next two years.

Others take it out for peace of mind,but my opinion is it is very expensive for what it is.

LR do have a good roadside assistance package,if you decide to go without the extended warranty.

If its a rip-off, then it can be discounted. And hence cost less.

My understanding is that Allianz provides the insurance directly to Land Rover for Land Rover's extended warranty.

The difference is I was told, is that the non LR policy's decision regarding a repair, is made by Allianz. Rather than Land Rover, and likely the advise of their dealership. Some say Allianz aren't helpful, others say they are the same as Land Rover.

There are many other policies out there too though, but many aren't worth much and are a bit of a Con. I bought one for a VW working van, and it paid little, you had to ask permission before a repair was made - there was a tonne of inconvenience in order to get a partial payment back.

I don't know what profit margin the dealership makes either. I think though that the LR policy should be available for the same price as Allianz's, but for the dealership margin. I suspect though that its tough to get the dealership to discount much downwards on the price if you already own the car.

As a comparison, Toyota charge for their LC 200, $1,950, but its for three extra years. However its a less complex vehicle, although there's much to go wrong in a Sahara, and gearbox and engine issues are very expensive in either brand.

Much more reasonable price,and for 3yrs.

The other thing toyota do,with our work Hi Aces,is if you take them to the dealer for servicing,must be the same dealer it was purchased from,you get an extended warranty which covers a fair bit,for 175K and 2yrs extended onto the 3yr/100k.This is at no extra cost.

This is available on many if not all Toyota models,but individual dealers may be different.

The water pump in mine was replaced at 173K for no charge(not the coolant),but the diff replacement in the other van was not under warranty at 178K.

We have the vans serviced at the dealer as they are done after hours at no extra cost,there fore are not off the road when they are needed.And they seem to do a good job on them,have never had an issue.Prices are reasonable as well.
