    6X6 onboard air system

    Has anybody done an onboard air system on a Perentie 6X6 yet. I am planning to do so shortly and would appreciate if anyone could post up some details if they have done one. Even with an aircon compressor fitted there is heaps of room to fit a York compressor in the engine bay. My plan is to fabricate a bracket that fits to the CAV generator bracket and will hold the York double piston compressor which will be driven off the double row pulley on the alternator. I will have to get my a into g shortly and post up some pics of my 6by - been pretty slack I must admit. Some other mods I plan on doing is fitting the aircon setup, an extra large fuel tank and a water tank and 2 more spares in the centre section of the massive space under the alum tray. Plus the air tank and 2nd battery on the passenger side. Plus I also have to manufacture a Hayman Reece style towbar to put on the rear as well as keeping the pintle assy. Plus I have a 1300kg palfinger to mount in the front centre of the tray so I can lift 44's of fuel onto the back without blowing a poofoo valve. Also have extra gauges like pyro, boost, tacho and oil pressure/temp and air pressure to fit.
    Will probably have to manufacture a new binnacle to fit them all. So much to do!!!!!

    Unfortunately I can't really be of any help; I'm sure I had a photo of a 6x6 Perentie dash that had the top section remanufactured out of aluminium to fit extra gauges, but it appears to have disappeared.

    I'd be keen to see photos of your 6x6 and in particular how you make the tow bar - i.e. whether it is an existing unit from something else with around the same width between chassis rails that is adapted to fit or scratch built.

    No worries Dervish, quess I will be making something up. Love to see that photo if you find it. After looking at the bar made by Robert 42 on REMLR I think I will be making something similar. Bolted up under the pintle hook on the rear crossmember and braced back to the rear axle spring hanger bracket. Probably get it hot dipped when finished so it won't look out of place on the rear.

    Great minds must think alike !! I was thinking of modifying my dash too... We'll probably just replacing the hole thing and coming square out from the windscreen after the a/c I fitted and vents not fitted. I was also thinking of fitting gauges And missile switches to the top beam where the interior light is. Similar to the Merc AMG 6x6 has ImageUploadedByAULRO1424921893.782294.jpg

    I also dream of CTI and portals. We arrived in Norway today and off to tromso later to see the Northam lights then in fortnight I shall be off to see the chaps that developed and manufacture the Tibus portal hubs in Germany !! So excited !!

    And as for fuel tanks and under tray stowage. I have currently put a 300L odd Fuel tank in the tray that I had from my old ute and it goes really well. I worked out with the 120L already on board, the 2 jerry cans and the fuel tank on the back at 15L per 100K I can drive from Perth to Melb.... So that's more than plenty. Now as you know, I'm planning on using all my tray to put the camper on the back. So I measured up the gap under the tray and got 1M wide by 300mm long x3 m long. So a tank under the tray that's was 300mm high by 1m wide and 1m long will give me 300L. Perfect. Then will the rest of the space I was thinking a water tank.

    Now for the original question of air system. I've seen that on the ambulance models with the factory AC they fitted it above the generator, so I know it can be done, but haven't seen any good photos of it. But I was thinking of mounting and AC compressor and endless air compressor on top of each other from the generator pulley which I think you suggested to me anyway. What would be good is to see some good pics of how they do it in the ambulance variant.

    On the ambulance the space becomes the walk through area as it gives the extra height in the body.
    On the air defence models there is a very solid roll out drawer about 2m long.

    On others there is a drop down flap that covers a long cavern under the floor.
