EGR blanking illegal? And ? Rocksliders

Just reading the latest edition of unsealed 4x4 and their list of potentially illegal modifications.

Most were no surprise to me but they mentioned EGR blanking which I know many many D3 owners have done.

Also hadnt before considered Rocksliders and side airbag issues.

Anyone know what if any rockliders for D3/4s have ADR approval?

Don't know about the sliders but my EGRs are blanked and without taking any pipework off it looks factory standard. The blanking plates are slipped in between the joint of the riser pipes and the EGRs nothing to see.

EGR is there to reduce NOx (NO+NO2) emissions.

Any modification to emissions control equipment is illegal. Blanking the EGR is equivalent to removing catalytic converters or diesel particulate filters.

    More reading here on NOx:

    EDIT:
NSW EPA Regs - AFAIK this would be over and above any fine for breaching ADRs

16 Motor vehicles emitting excessive air impurities

An owner of a motor vehicle is guilty of an offence if the vehicle emits excessive air impurities while being used.

Maximum penalty: 400 penalty units in the case of a corporation, or 200 penalty units in the case of an individual.

Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997
    Section 154 (2)

For the purposes of this Part, a motor vehicle emits excessive air impurities if:

when in operation, it emits as determined in accordance with the regulations, air impurities in excess of the standard of concentration and the rate (or the standard of concentration or the rate) prescribed in respect of the class of motor vehicles to which the motor vehicle belongs, or
when tested in the prescribed manner, it emits air impurities in excess of the amount per test prescribed in respect of the class of motor vehicles to which the motor vehicle belongs.
However as mentioned, unless someone dobs you in it is unlikely anyone will check.

The worst part is they dump exhaust crap back into the intake, gumming everything up.

The D2 couldn't tell actually it only pulsed the motor, no feedback given to the ECU.
The D4 can, and will throw codes!
Early D3s didn't notice it being blocked off. Later versions do.

The list is quite interesting and includes...

    Changing Exhaust from non-genuine
    Non-compliant bar work.
    EGR removal
    Remapping and Chips
    Tinting beyond 35%

Also, not replacing Cats when they expire, replacing fuel canisters (Petrol) amongst other things.

Regarding Cats,a heads up for scrap collectors.
We had a hector the **** collector scabing around the depot last week.
Told us cats of wrecks are worth good money if we want to cut them off wrecks at the tip as they come in.Was talking $50 for genuine,$30 aftermarket.
    They are full of platinum.
