    Mercedes Zetros

    Now available in Australia

    I guess its like a development of the 4x4 1418 , looks tough , available in Super Singles or duals, 4x4 or 6x6

    And it's sat on the hub reduction axles I'm set on having under my truck!! Solid buggers!

    Nah, std diff setup, with ring and pinion, but being smaller its all a lot thicker and turning a lot faster than most trucks.. More speed, les torque. The hubs (big cast caps in the center of the wheels) contain the reduction units.. Here is where the torque comes in!

    Here's the same axle under a 1997 Mercedes 1831AK. Good ground clearance, and the axles are also good for 500hp. Only downfall is they weigh heavier than std axles which hampered Mercs weight limits in Europe. That's why you also see a lot of the earlier Merc 2435 Prime Movers over here still running on Alloy Rims.

    More or less than a Unimog?

    Top Gear quoted 80,000GBP , which is about half the price of a Unimog, but I guess the configuration will vary the amount vastly.
