Perentie seat headrest removal.

Anyone else have trouble removing the headrest from the seats. Mine is a later model (1998 6x6) with the seats as per photo. I am making up camo seat covers for them, the drivers side one came of really easy but the passenger side won't budge. I have tried levering and hammering and liberal application of CRC but to no avail. I know they have a locking slot in them but all indications are that they should just come out with a slight effort. Any clues??

Thanks mate, yeah I did see that, sounds good, I have a couple of ideas with the extra gauges. Will post up something when I get the gauge holders. Well i gave up on the headrest removal after slugging my finger with a 4lb hammer, now sporting a purple finger. I just modified the seat cover to fit around the 2 headrest pins. Apart from a bit of velcro showing you can't see what I have done. Looks pretty good. I will post up some pics tomorrow after I get home from town. Getting a 3" exhaust fitted in the morning so it will breathe a bit better. After fitting the pyro/boost/tacho gauges I am going to loosen the fuel screw a little and see what happens!!!

Sigh, I'm jealous !! Now I've been on this holiday I have to save up again so I can finish my shed so I can start working on my Jindee's. It's going to be a while befor I can start fitting new toys to her..... Well I'll prob start with making one into two. But it's all time and money !! Both of which I have little of.

Are you still os or back home. Seeing the northern lights would be an eye opener. Don't worry about the portals mate - put lockers in and you will have 6 wheels driving, not much will stop you with that. If it happens you just pull out a cold one and engage the winch

Brian Those seats look like the original version from 1987. The headrest is just straight rods with a metal plate welded to it. They slot into tubes at the top of the seat frame with plastic flanges on the outside of the trim. I have and old set. They looked ok on the outside, but the frame had a lot of surface rust. I don't know what brand they are.

My ISRI seats have similar adjustment set up. They go up with side ways rocking and upward pressure. It sounds like your's are rusted fast. I might give mine a spray.

Yes, I think you are right Pete, the passenger one must be rusted below the plastic dowels. I tried everything to free it without success - gave up in the end after hitting the finger with the hammer. All turned out well, as I said you wouldn't know unless you looked closely Pictures tomorrow.

Mine had a couple of 'R' clips locating the headrest pin into a sleeve in the backrest frame. The clips had to be removed first. They were a pain to get to, needed to slide up the vinyl backrest cover to get access.

Yeah, your probably right. It's a years worth of travelling. We are overseas at the moment. Today we went to the Northern most point of Europe Attachment 91310
It's very cold and windy tho Attachment 91311

As for the winches, they haven't instilled a great confidence in me yet. The old one slips way too easy still(I think I'm going to try new balls and springs?) and the new one came with the engage lever disconnect and tucked up on top of the trans. I connected it all up but its seized so have to pull the clutch apart one day and find out why

Looks just like the ones out of top gear. I've read if a few people doing inter-continental expeditions. I think I read of one couple over in Africa in Pat Callinan's 4X4 Adventures latest magazine. Looks like an amazing adventure !!
