    Weird problem help please

Hi guys, D4 3.0, just came down a mountain Rd, got to the bottom stopped to turn right, heard a tiny clunk then drove off and car seemed to be wobbling like a wheel was very loose. Pulled over checked the obvious, drove off slowly, still wobbly. Pulled over again, had another a look, all ok. Went to drive off again (only had 3 kms to go)
Put it in to drive and brakes were on, car wouldn't role forward. Put it into Park again, then into drive and drove off slowly. Brakes seemed to let go and drove off slowly. This time all ok and back to normal. Any ideas?? Did the brakes heat up and lock on for a bit? I was seriously expecting a broken cv. Any help would be appreciated as we are 5 hours from home.
    Paul.

A broken CV would delete power to that axle, the electronics would be trying to sort the issue and probably overheating the brakes I would have thought.
    Best of luck.

I would have thought that a broken cv would have stopped me driving off at all, I got it back up to 60 with no further signs of problems.

    Possibly.
Im thinking broken CV.The diff delivers all power to that wheel as its the easiest axle to turn.Electronics try to control this by braking this axle, then the brakes get hot.
No expert on these matters, see what the brains trust think.
    GOODLUCK.

The vehicle wont have any drive if it has a broken CV unless in rock crawl and driving basically straight ahead to keep the centre diff reasonably locked.

I would be checking callipers, brake pads and wheel bearings for not being loose.

That's what I thought Graeme, it seems brakes related, my control arm bushes are worn and need replacing, wether this is related or not?

The worn bushes may have allowed the wheel to rock back and forth enough to feel like it was loose. Better check in the morning to be sure that nothing's about to come adrift.

It would seem that with the abnormally high amount of brake dust on the back right wheel would indicate a partially intermittent seizing caliper piston. I pulled the brakes apart pushed the piston in and out, lubed the outer side of piston and reassembled. Seems ok for now. I think that wheel alone was being braked while driving pulling everything out, therefore skewy, wobbly feeling, kind of like the shopping trolley with one dodgy wheel.
