JB, I would say the service dept has just forgotten to reset the service indicator at the last service. Happened to me once, I just put up with it until the next service. You should be able to drop in to the dealer and have them reset it.
Hi Guys,
2012 D4 HSE 29,000k's
just had the "Service Required" pop up on the top of the dash screen when starting the vehicle.
What is the criteria for this message to come up? Reason why i am asking is the car is 29,000k's old, it's serviced every 10,000 k's (oil change - last change at 22,000k's) The car is always serviced over time before k's however next service from MLR is down as June or 58,000k's. What also makes it confusing is the car was in for a warranty sump gasket replacement 4 weeks ago, in which I would assume the oil is replaced anyway? Have checked oil level it's full.
Just got me stumped why it would be requiring service based on the above facts.
Thanks
JB

Hi Sean,
it's only just come on in the past few days, hence every time you start the car it comes on, service was 8 months ago..
Yep, that's right, it's a reminder. in my case it was quite some time after my previous service when it came on. It was because they had not reset it correctly.
from the manual:
Note that these intervals would be at every 26,000Kms on the 3.0 Ltr. with health checks being at 13,000Km's. so your next service "equivalent" would be 52,000KM's (not 58k kms).SERVICE INTERVAL INDICATOR
The service interval message will only be displayed when the vehicle has less than 3200 km (2000 miles) before the service is due.
When the ignition is switched on, and the vehicle has started its service countdown, SERVICE REQ'D XXXX km (XXXX MLS) is displayed in the message centre.
When the service distance has been reached, SERVICE REQUIRED is displayed in the message centre.
If no service interval indicator is displayed during the vehicle service
cycle, make sure that your vehicle is serviced in accordance with the
intervals, as stated in the Service Portfolio.
Either way, I don't think the service interval count down was reset properly at the last service.
Cheers,
Sean

As SBD4 said it's just a reminder. IIDTool is able to reset, possibly others as well or dealer can. I believe it works on kms only, so if the manual is correct saying 3200kms before service and based on km services every 26000, it sounds like it has been reset once at around 6200kms based on your current odometer of 29000. Did you have it serviced at around 6200kms? Keep in mind services are required at the cumulative 26000km reading or each 12 months. Like you, I just had a engine oil change at 12500kms thinking I would not need another (or full service) until 26000kms, but as it is eight months old I was corrected by the dealer stating it will require the full (26000km) service at 12 months regardless of kms. So, in another 4 months give or take, in she goes. Then I will do engine oil every 6 months and full service every 12 months, as these will beat the kms travelled in my case.
Cheers, Mungus.

Thanks guys, that makes sense I'll ring MLR.
Mungus like you i did my first oil change at 10k then before i could get to the 26,000 its was serviced at 20k with oil etc by the time it's due again it will be 30k so ultimately it's getting oil changes every 12 months.
Cheers
