That's a dust protector and new ones are available. The squeaking could be from dirt in the air-spring folds.
My right rear air spring has a torn boot on the bottom of the metal sleave the bag is held in. It constantly makes a high pitched loud squeak when driving. Is the rubbing that is causing the noise wearing out the air bag ? I live in a dusty muddy Pilbara area. What's your experiance, should it be replaced? I'm not familiar with the inner workings of the air bags.
Thanks

Adrian, I had a simliar high pitched loud squeak from my front right air strut a while ago. Turns out it was an air leak in the bag. Try jacking it up and see if you get a constant "squeak" from the bag at any point - thats what triggered the cause of the squeak for me. Plus I also used to get a frequent amber suspension light. Digging into the fault code I got a frequent up movment of front suspension error, which would have been from the leaking bag. That error has not occured since I replaced the front struts

I had an annoying squeak too in my rear suspension, it turned out to be the lower ball joint on the hub which seizes up over time. Driving in dusty conditions will make it show up also.
