My Fairlady
One dear hobby of mine is my other car.
She is a 1991 Nissan 300zx, Twin turbo. Also known as a Fairlady Z.
The Twin Turbo 3L, DOHC V6 was a great engine back in its day, the pinnacle of performance in the Nissan stable.
The Iconic Z Car, which began with the Datsun 240Z back in the late 60's, evolved in the later models, reaching what I consider to be the model's pinnacle with the Z32- produced from 1989 to 2000. The Z32 is a powerful and sleek grand tourer which some referred to as the Japanese Ferrarri. In my opinion, it's an aged vehicle, but has done so gracefully- now 24 years old, it still holds its own against other vehicles on the road, and still maintains a heritage which I appreciate in all cars I own (including the defender).
My particular vehicle has been modified, with most of the mechanical and electrical modifications being undertaken by myself.
The engine was built for 300kW (400HP) at the wheels, which is easily produced by this engine on a modest 16psi boost.
It's currently in a state of development in which I'm tweaking the injectors / fuel delivery system and ECU to reach this engine's full potential.
I keep it registered, and maintain it to it's current level (which is neat, but not immaculate). I believe the value one gets from anything is gained through using it- having a vehicle parked in the living room on display is a waste of a vehicle in my opinion.
I drive it occasionally, perhaps a few times a month, and enjoy stretching its legs on the open roads in the New England region. As a grand tourer, it will easily maintain high speeds in relative comfort, with plenty of reserve power if needed.
I enjoy the occasional drag race, often an 1/8 mile race on the local track. I have attended WSID at Eastern Creek, and look forward to going back again some time. I am looking to participate in some local autocross events which will test the limit of driver and vehicle, and be a bucketload of fun as well.
