    Retraining the brain.

How long does it take for these D4s to return to normality after towing?????.Went for a short drive sans trailer today
I want my old D4 back!!!! Was great whilst towing, not as nice now. Also expects she is going to slurp up the fuel.Cut me out of 100km on my distance from empty when I filled up
Its OK,I know I will win the distance to empty bet Snow White

Andy, I do a lot of heavy towing...and everything is fine and performs the way I expect when a trailer is no longer attached.

The fuel to empty comes back reasonably quickly once a trailer is no longer connected.

She does get confused a bit as the rear tank drains to the front tank though.

Do what I do Andy, tow in Sport mode and use the trip B, then drive in normal mode when not towing and use trip A

Two days travelling across the Nullarbor with strong cross and head winds and a fair load on the roofrack has thrown mine out a bit too. Didn't get anywhere near the fuel economy this trip across as we did on the last trip to Tassie similarly loaded.

But all's back to normal now that I'm out of the wind. The run from Adelaide up to Clare earlier today was looking far better on the fuel consumption meter.
    Cheers .........

Whats the story here , do these things work on what it did yesterday or something .
My 2007 RRS TDV6 seems to be ok with what ever I am doing, towing my camper or normal driving , or is a Jayco camper not heavy enough to confuse things .

The gearbox is adaptive,it adapts to perform the best it can to the way you drive it.At the moment its been towing the ECU told it so,so its learnt to shift gears differently.Fine whilst towing seem harsher and higher shift points, closer downshift points, not required now there is no trailer.
People have posted that theirs behaves differently when their partner has been driving.

Andrew, no doubt it will re-adapt with time, but I wonder if the adaptive reset built into 6hp26 would work on the 8spd. BMW's with the zf box can be reset by turning on the ignition (all lights up but do not start), hold throttle flat to floor for 30-45 secs, then ignition off. Wait a few minutes, start up and all the original gearbox adaptive settings go back to the original default. No guarantee LR retained this feature or it comes with the 8 speed but I have read people report it works on the D3. David

To be honest, it's not that noticable on the 6 speed, well with mine anyway, usually a trip to work or down to Bunning will sort it out.

I use trip A & B so I can work out fuel economy for towing and not towing, that way is easier when filling up and writting down Ks done for the day, we don't rely on the fuel figures the car gives, way out in regards to real economy.

The Amarok on the other hand, the fuel read out on it is almost dead accurate, way more saccurate than the Disco.

Perhaps the 8 speed is more noticable than the 6 speed in how the paramaters change.
Anyhow, got a 250km drive to Albany on friday, that should get it back on track

    Cheers
