    My Keyless has a delay

Just picked up my new 2014 D4 HSE this weekend. It's my first LR and so far it stacks up very nicely to my previous rides.

This is also my 3rd experience with keyless entry. My 1st was in a Suzuki Grand Vitara and then most recently in an Audi Q5. I have never had any issues with keyless systems but the D4 has me stumped.

On exit of the vehicle (and after closing the door) a press of the keyless lock button on the drivers door handle will not lock the vehicle as expected.
However if I press the keyless lock button on any of the other door handles the vehicle locks immediately.

Initially I thought the button on the drivers door handle was faulty so I was planning to have the car looked at by the dealer.

However after a bit of experimentation I discovered that there is nothing wrong with the button. For some reason there must be a 45 second delay (after closing the door) before the door can be locked with the keyless button.

There is no delay if I use the lock button on the key fob or the keyless lock button on any of the other three doors.

This 45 second delay also applies to unlocking of the drivers door using the keyless method (by putting ones hand around the door handle).

So in essence the D4 with not respond to any commands from the drivers door handle (lock or unlock) until after the door has been closed for 45 seconds.

Is this delay normal? Is there a way for the delay to be shortened or removed entirely? (I notice that in the car set-up menu the "headlights on delay" can be adjusted but I cannot find a similar adjustment for the drivers door handle.

    Any ideas??

    Thanks nat_89
    Yes it does seem odd.

At the moment we (wife or I) lock the car using the key-fob or (when in a hurry) by a press of the button on the handle on the drivers side passenger door.

Looks like a trip to the dealer unless they can think of a way to fix this over the phone.

I don't have keyless entry but wonder if this is a safety feature to ensure any passengers are out of the car. When I lock my car, MY13 HSE D4, using the key fob, I double lock it and this puts the car into deadlock mode and it cannot be opened from the inside. Don't really know if this is the case with yours if you lock it using the door handle button but it's what popped into my mind when I read your thread.

    Thanks Martin,

The delay on locking / unlocking the drivers door behaviour seems to be independent of the single or double (2 stage) locking feature.
I also changed to "single-point" entry and back to "multi-point" entry and the delay occurs regardless of these settings as well.

Anyway I have contacted the dealer. Just waiting on the response

    Update....

Service tech at LR says he has not encounter the 45 second delay before.
    Locking should be instantaneous.
Earliest time they can look at it is in 2 weeks..... so until then I suppose.

Did our usual trip down to the gold coast to visit the in-laws this morning (Sunday).
As per usual we stopped to grap a coffee at the Springwood Micky Dee's

After I parked up I forgetfully tried to lock the drivers door with the button on the door handle. But this time it worked - The car locked up as it should. I was surprised (shocked actually). It also unlocked (after putting my hand round the door handle).

I tested the lock and unlock again (with a door open & close in between) and again it locked and unlocked. I then locked up and proceeded inside with a big grin. Well bugger me this car fixes itself

Anyway, all day and tonight the keyless feature on the drivers door worked without a hitch.

I will give it a more time to be sure but all seems okay.

Well that did not last long. Today (Tuesday) the delay is back again.

So to summarise, my D4 with keyless has reverted back to a 45 second delay before it will lock / unclock via the drivers door handle.

If I wait 45 seconds I can lock and unlock the door until the cows come home (or the battery goes flat).
However if I open the door, the phantom "timer" resets and I need to wait for 45 seconds before the door will lock / unlock (yes, I timed it with a stop watch).

Luckily I did not cancel my appointment to see the dealer.
And I now have another unrelated gripe (which I will save for another post).
