    Aga questions

Looks like we are getting an Aga. Have previous experience with coke fired but this one is wood fired. Is there a conversion kit for coke required? Any other gems gratefully accepted.

Agas have been sold here, but I have not seen one new for years (and I don't remember even considering one when I bought my Stanley twenty years ago).

Coke, while it is a satisfactory, easily handled fuel, and probably cleaner burning than wood, and certainly hotter, is not all that easy to come by today (it used to be readily available from local gasworks), and I would look closely at its local availability and future prospects before even thinking about conversion from wood to coke.

I looked at them not long ago when I was looking at wood heaters and thought if I could kill two birds with one stone. But there so bloody expencive I never got one. Was going to post a link to the aga Australia website but it looks like they only have gas and electric on the site now

    Aga heating.

Friends had one in bathurst and yes it was an old house. Used to burn about two box trailer loads a year from corimal coke works. Far cheaper than wood.

Best thing since sliced bread for keeping the kitchen and back of the house warm.

The one I used in the UK used home heating oil. I wonder if you could use waste oil in one?

They are set up for either solid fuel or oil, and can be converted from one to the other. The oil burner should burn waste oil (although may be hard to start), but it will almost certainly not burn as cleanly as heating oil, and will definitely leave more residue, necessitating more frequent cleaning. I would not want to use it if I had near neighbours.
