strong diesel fuel smell ??

Hi all,

After a good rough and tumble we pulled into Alice Springs and I smell a strong fresh diesel smell. No performance issues. Leave standing for a while and see no drips, but the smell is strong. Take it to the local LR mechanic (no thanks to the LR assist service who demanded I call 000 before they tow me). He couldn't find any obvious source of leak but but said he noticed fluid and suggested it might be the high pressure pump. Which apparently is sensitive to dodgy fuel mix and also expensive to replace? Plugged in the fault code and, all ok.

Made it back to Cairns fine with no obvious issues apart from a smell of diesel in the engine bay?

Hi Ozzy119,
My D3 caught fire, the suspicion was that the fuel from a leaking HP fuel pump flashed off on the exhaust under the HP fuel pump. This was never proven however it was suspect.
