Hi River
Chances are it could be a loose plug on the wiring loom, wiring diagrams a pretty easy to follow look for a connector on the diagram that has the effected circuits, then the hard part finding it on the loom,at least you should be able to track the coloured wires.
If the connector is loose chances are your smoke may be seeping out un-noticed
I will have a look a wiring diagram see if I can see.

Hi River
Just looked at a Ser3 wiring chart.
Surprise Surprise the fuel gauge, temp gauge and stoplamps are on the same wiring circuit.
From the fuse box you have 2 green wires to trace, one goes to the voltage stabaliser the other the stop light switch.Best you have a look at a chart.
Do you have a multi meter???? If not time to buy one.If you use the ohms setting you can check wiring for resistance at its source and destination,it will tell you if there is an open circuit,ie broken connector/cut wire etc.
Goodluck

Any Advice before I call the Auto Elec Series 3 wiring

G'day River
I bet that everything was working OK until you put it into reverse ops: The Ser 3 have the Reversing light wires on the same fuse as the Stop, Fuel , Temp and they have a habit of the wires (green &greenwith Black tracer) getting squashed inbetween the gear selector slides, and they strip the insulation so when you select Reverse INSTANT SHORT 8O ops: No fuse Follow the wires from near the chassis across to the reverse lamp switch on the g/box lever frame, by feeling each wire you may find the stripped section, this can be responsable for letting the smoke out along the entire wiring harness 8O Also check the wires around the fuse box for insulation melt related to the shorted reverse light wires if applicable

cheers

8O The wires on HS are yellow and green to the reverse switch. I don't know if that's the true colours but thought I'd mention it in case River has different.

If no luck with all the switches, check around where the wiring goes into the chassis at the front near the brake prop valve, where it exits behind the right rear wheel and enters the tub. The rubber gommets tend to perish and fall out leaving the wires vunerable to chaffing against the sharp edge.

Also I noticed on mine where the wires enter the tub behind the lights, the plastic shielding on the wire becomes brittle, falls off and leaves the wire exposed. Why I don't know (as the contacts measure okay and don't get hot :? ) but a few quick laps with insulation tape does the trick.

Appeaers to issues, a bpack of faulty fuses and a doggeige reverse wire

All fixed and working

G'day All
OOPS ops: made a BOO BOO there I stated that the wire out to the Reversing lights as Green with a BLACK TRACER ops: that is the Fuel Sender Wire The CORRECT code is Fuse to Switch GREEN - Switch to Lamps GREEN Sorry folks ops: seems that the Dinosaur makes errors, old age probably.
This fault is responsable for letting the Smoke out of a lot of Series 3 wiring 8O.

Cheers.
