Is the any benifit in using BP Ultimate Diesel ? or the additives you find that makes the motor runs smoother and improves performance.

It's for a Range Rover Sport 2015 and Betty my 2.2 Puma?

And should I use diesel additives to according to the marketing on the products are essential to make modern turbo diesel motors run better??

As does some simple head porting !

I'm still stunned at how much more torque I have with a reworked head (and to be fair, probably better ring seal with the new pistons/rings)


As for diesel additives, most are blended as cleaners first and foremost, and as such should be used sparingly IMO.
Having run engine oil tests with some premium cleaners (eg. BP's DieselGo) the blow by affected the wear metal levels in the crankcase, ie. bearing metal values showed elevated wear metals meaning the fuel additives were corrosive to the bearings.
The only brand I've tested that didn't do that, and my testing is by no means exhaustive, was Redline's RL2 and 85Plus.
These two also contain lubricants for the pump/s, injectors and rings.

Hi, I normally never see the diesel that goes into my tank. However I recently filled a 20L plastic Jerry at Oodnadatta, and used it just before Mt Dare to save buying at $2.20/L.

Looking at the dregs left in the Jerry I was shocked to see lots of things floating around in the last litre or so.

I guess these are now happily residing in the fuel filter which I will have changed at the next service.

It did make me a bit anxious for the first few km or so till we got back to bitumen and more fuel.

Does anyone here pre-filter fuel whilst filling from a commercial pump?

No.

All you need to do is use the service stations the big interstate trucks use, the fuel is turned over quickly and is generally fresh and clean.

Hi,
not a comment on fuel itself but remember that some of us have had trouble with BP garages eg at Whalan re pumas not starting due to interference with key fob/immobiliser so maybe use a different brand --don't think anyone has had issues with other than BP--we certainly do not buy at BP.

Having worked in a few servos while I was studying, that is probably the single biggest difference in fuel, rather than the particular company.
