Not sure how you would get a jib/chains/hook in over the top of the box. Just had the LT230 replaced on one of my Discos and they used a transmission jack from underneath.
Hi all,
Removal of lt230 and r380 from Disco 1is on the books. I have access to engine crane. I plan to remove them one at the time. In your experiences is it easier to remove using engine crane and hang them from the top or make adaptor plates and use jack to do it from the bottom?
Thanx

I have an excellent h/d trolley jack (weighs around 40kg) so out the bottom is my first choice. Not sure if I'd even try it with a supercrap portable jobbie.
Back in the old RRC days you could remove the floor panel and lift out thru the huge doorway, as what pop said not going to happen from above so lowering down is only option.

Oh I know I cant lift it up. I meant wether to use crane or jack to support / lower down once unbolted and decoupled.
I can wrap slings or rope around gearbox and xfer case or make bracket to bolt on and use as lifting point if using crane. I have spare of each so I can find good ballancing point first.

I've done it both ways from top and bottom, it's half a dozen one way to half a dozen the other.
Either way it's easier once the centre console is removed and you can access the bolts and stuff from the top
The engine crane from top stops the whole lot falling on top of you when your under the vehicle.
Also depends on whether your solo or have a helper.
Cheers,
Mario
As mario said, either or.
To get a nice smooth lowering motion, i find the crane easier to control. Also I take them out together.
Centre console out, crane in through the door (i find passenger door easier) drop the hook down through the tunnel and away you go.
Make up a bracket that will bolt to the pto cover (top right bolt) to sling off, other end i just sling under the gearbox slightly forward of the drain plug (r380 manual)
Good luck
