    CCTV Options

Well it is a camera !

Looking for a work CCTV solution,
Bosch is great, but too expensive for us.
D-Link and Swann are effectively Home, Small Business.

Came across Samsung, who appear to have a good range

Any suggestions for a good system at a reasonable price ( IP based)
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

I have a Swann system at home. Video quality is average at best. Had a lot of problems with the DVR in the first year with multiple failures and RMAs. The lesson is you pay for what you get.

I've a Pacom system and it's not great but was expensive. Day time quality is average and at night although it's supposedly a day/night system it's really not much.
1 camera has gone on the blink but as it's now some 5 years old is to be expected. It's there more as a deterrent for a **** head neighbour than anything else.

We have a VIP Vision 16 camera system at work & it is pretty good.
It works by IP address & is all hooked through our main D-Link switch.

I can also bring it up on any of the 3 computer screens (it has its own dedicated screen) & it is quite easy to record to a memory stick.

Night vision is average even though we have the place well lit, day footage is excellent.

I find search a bit of a pain but my assistant is pretty good at that so I get her to do it & I just do the watching.

I don't recall what the system cost us, we did a self install, but I seem to think it was a bit under $2000.00.

To be honest unless I know something is going on or happened at a previous time I don't watch it much. I do keep an eye on the Service Counter at times but usually it's a look back at things type of device.

One other issue is the hard drive only keeps about 14 days of video at good resolution.

Like most things it looks like you get what you pay for, now if only Samsung would reply
