Now would be the time to ask, RUOK ?
How to cope with traumatic news - an illustrated guide - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food
A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

If exposure to constant media presentation pushes all the wrong buttons, ignorance is indeed bliss. Sometimes those who have experienced life threatening situations can have flashbacks, when something like Paris happens. And this definitely puts people in a bad place. Just about every PTSD course has sections covering this subject, and offer ways to cope with it. I understand if some one who doesn't have the problem doesn't understand, but limiting exposure to a traumatic event is a definite way of coping with demons of PTSD.

You should not assume.
I have infact been diagnosed with PTSD among other things my friend.
Not for war or anything like that. Because my father is a mass murderer and i was around during it. I dont actually think i have PTSD but the docs do.
Anyway thanks for assuming i have no idea what im talking about.

Not always.
I have been to many doctors, phychs and had many varying diagnosis's.
PTSD, Accute Personality disorder and Bipolar among others.
All had one thing in common. They wanted me to take drugs.
Over a couple of years i took so many different damn drugs.
They screwed with me big time. Years later i still have effects from them.
Got sick and tired of this so decided to deal with it my own way.
NO drugs and a different life style choice have helped me far more.
Moved from the city to the country. Go camping by myself if i need me time.
Far more beneficial than what the professionals wanted me to do.
I think when it comes to mental illness doctors are in the dark a bit.
There intentions are good, no question. There just seems to be a big push to take the latest drugs out on the market. I assume its pharmaceutical companies pushing there products to some degree.
That's interesting. After WW1, & WW2, many ex servicemen took to the bush, for much the same reason as you. Some Vietnam veterans as well. I agree with you about drugs . If what you do works for you, good for you. There is a lot to be said about the recuperative powers of the bush.
However, for those who don't have that choice, the Psych. hospital at Toowong has a 9 week PTSD day course that teaches people coping mechanisms for the problem, totally drug free. The course has a high success rate.
