Newcastle was a pretty rough town in those days. Sailing ships coming and going and even men being press ganged by ships captains because crews would disappear when a ship came into the harbour. Being a local here, it's not hard to believe.
Apparently the first match ended in a violent brawl, hard to believe...

Ongoing,neverending!!Here is a link to the dredge called "David Allen". I don't know if it still working since the Chinese have taken a lease out on the port.
