Interesting. I don't understand why anyone would have a problem with this. Why do you need to carry a weapon for "self defense". I don't get that at all. The couple of times I've ended up deep in the smelly stuff ....... There wasn't a snowmans chance in hell I'd have had time to get any sort of weapon out (just see how long it takes to reach into your pocket and try to get a folding knife out).

I wonder what they'd make the the SOG multi-tool that lives on my belt

No. Is there a bit of racial profiling going on there you reckon? Or is the place just full of knobs?
Random breath testing for motor car drivers is bad enough, but random - in the street- body searches are on a different level.
I have been chatted about wearing a letherman on my belt also (makes me wonder who the real knobs are)

I used to catch a train out to heidleburg often. I never felt unsafe. Then again I'm a white male between the age of 20 and 50 ..... so the least likely target of all the population. No-one picks a target to mug that might beat the living crap out of them after all

seriously, I'm pretty happy in a society where you don't have to worry about poeple carrying weapons. Even the nutters don't seem to have access or the brain power to get there hands on weapons out here (unlike the USA where they can just mail order themselve a machine gun or three from the local hardware store )

You ever lived in Dandenong ?.
I get the feeling of some westy stereo typing .Hell look at all the shootings over your end of town mate
Honestly i grew up there and was never a problem then mind you almost 40 years ago at 14 i worked in the Dandy Market at 4 am used to ride my bike there.
I still live in the area with no fear of being stabbed nor shot.
Now it has sunk to all time lows we are told drugies and totaly different cultures .
I would`nt say it was that bad that they need these laws pretty much any area that has this multi cultural problems so we are told so Dandy might just be a trial im guessing

No racial profiling - it's been like that as long as I can remember - which goes back to having the snot beaten out of me at in the train station car park one Saturday night - by Caucasians incidentally. Another time I was there with a friend - he parked his car and we walked up the street to get something to eat - before we had gone 100 meters we watched someone drive past us - in my mates car...

As above, just personal experience. I actually don't find it as bad now as it was 25 years ago, although when we have conferences in town there is almost always one of the work cars damaged. It wasn't you that beat me up at the train station was it?
