    TD5 EU3 in a Disco 2a. How Many CF/M

    Hi Team,
    Here's the preamble:
I've been researching AULRO for air-cleaning options on my Disco and I've learned quite a bit. Not least of all that, short of redesigning the filter-box assembly from scratch:
    • A conventional paper filter, preferably OEM is the way to go.
    • The filter could need some grease to help seal it into the box.
    • A Snorkel will help to keep it clean.
    • A pre-cleaner, on the entrance to the snorkel, will help in really dusty conditions.

I just bought a Land Rover branded filter for $15 from ULR, which saves me from having to bother researching further regarding whose cheap filter comes from the same place as an OEM one, so that's a win .
I've got some castor-oil based rubber grease, which I hope will be the right stuff to seal the top of the air box.
I'm on the lookout for a Safari (or Safari knock-off) snorkel on ebay.
The Donaldson Top-Spin Prefilter (for example) https://catalog.donaldson.com/produc...=374713#tabs-3
is available, and is specified according to the cubic feet per minute of air and dust that it will be required to clean.
    Here's the question:
How much air will my TD5 be using, when:
    • Cruising on the highway or
    • Pulling hard, up hill in low range, with a heavy load?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

The rubber surround on the filter pretty much negates the need for any grease which will just end up as a dust magnet.

Thanks for that, just what I needed.
Has anyone tried one of these?

It's pretty big, with an 11"x11" profile, but it's the correct one, and fits a 4" (103mm) pipe (which I'm guessing is the size of a Safari snorkel).

There has been a lot of chatter over the years about dust ingress from poorly-fitting seals, and a bit of grease has been recommended by a number of AULRO members.
Maybe this is just for non-genuine filters?

    The 530cfm assumes 4000 rpm

"A turbo can raise the volumetric efficiency to between 1.5 and 3.0. If you don't know this value for your turbo, it is best to use 3.0."

I guess the above would be plenty

    Thanks again.
I see the implication in the calculation and the smaller item is certainly a more compact unit.
The airflow would be directly proportional to revs so, at 3000 revs, the flow would be just within the rated value, assuming the maximum volumetric efficiency of 3 (which seems quite high to me, on reflection).
It would be working better flat-out too, I reckon, even if there is a performance restriction above 3000.
Interestingly the same diameter outlet, so it may not really be such a critical matter.
Do you understand the difference between the regular and 'HD' range? It seems a bit of a mystery to me
