    Perentie starter motor

My Perentie starter motor (original Army spec) has started to drag.
I've check the cables, battery is new and I've concluded the starter needs a service.
Has anyone had this issue and how did you fix it? are there any special tips for dismantle and re-assembly?
If all else fails I'll take it to an auto electrician in the new year.
Does anybody know of a good one for these starters in NW Sydney (Penrith/Richmond/Windsor area)?

    Thanks in advance.

One of these? KLR Auto at South Windsor have them. I saw them in boxes out there last week. I don't know when KLR are back after the Xmas break.

What do you mean by "drag" Phil. They are easy to dismantle and clean. Solenoids and brushes are the usual culprits for not contacting properly or it could be that it just needs a good clean, lube and light sandpaper of the commutator contact area and solenoid contacts and reassemble. They don't usually give any problems. Don't forget the earth strap contacts.

    Thanks gents
The starter was cranking progressively slower, almost like a flat battery
I stripped and cleaned it all inside and found that one of the brushed was sticking in its slide and arcing
Cleaned the commutator and put it back together with new grease in bearings etc
    As good as new now!!
Sorry, I forgot to take photos, me bad!

In case its of any use to someone, I got suitable brushes from Ashdown Ingram. Took the old ones in for them to measure and they found some with the same critical dimensions - but longer
I couldn't un-solder the old brushes as they seemed to be silver soldered on - even my big soldering iron wouldn't touch them. Ended up just snipping the old leads off as close as I could, and soldering the new ones on with electrical solder. No drama's since.
I also replaced most of the bearings except for one that I couldn't see an obvious way to remove without potentially damaging things. It appeared in good condition anyway.
