Td5 won't start - fuel pump / Electronics? North ADL
Td5 won't start - fuel pump / Electronics? North ADL
		Evening all,
So today after driving to work no worries this morning, later when I went to start the Defender it initially started and then stoped after a couple of seconds, and now just turns over and won't start..
After talking (offline) with blknight.aus I've run through some basic fault finding including fuses, relays, inertia switch but I'm not getting anywhere. I think it must be the fuel pump, but one thing leads me to believe it could be other electronics somewhere - the glow plug lights won't come on at all..
As I've already paid for the service I called the RAA, the bloke was nice but couldn't really do anything - even his ECU reader wouldn't talk to the NNN TD5 ECU. He's given me a deferred tow so I need to decide where to send it.
Having just moved to Adelaide I'm not sure if I should send it to a auto elec or try for a Land Rover place, or possibly get it towed to my place and have a go at the fuel pump.
Anyone have any suggestions for Land Rover services in Northern Adelaide?
Thanks,
Matt

I've just looked at a D2,TD5 with the same symptoms as yours.
The fuel pump is ticking over but very quiet.
Power relay was swaped and power feed checked, no change.
Uncliped the fuel line at the FPR and ran it into a bottle , turned the key and no flow at all.
We think this pump is less than 12 months old
I think with the key in pos 2 the pump isn't going, but with the relay bridged i can hear it quietly, would have to confirm..
Is the glow plug light behaving as normal? The fact it's not coming on is the only thing that's throwing me off from ordering a new fuel pump and getting it towed to my house to work on..
Thanks

Just to close the loop on this one, it turned out to be a faulty ECU...
During the fault finding process it was discovered that the ignition switch was faulty/intermittent. I'm hoping this is what caused the ECU to go.
Thanks for the replies.

2004 Defender 210,000 KM.
The part actually goes on the back of the ignition, and is just the electrical switch component. 4 Heavy wires attach to the back. When inspecting it, touching the wires caused chattering, and trying to take a spade terminal off the whole thing fell apart.
Part is $30 - PRC8230 for the td5.
