We did it from recovery gear I had rather than the purpose bought kit.
It took two us to move the rig, twice the work as a turfer style setup but it worked.
I'd hate to try to winch out of a bog with this, at my age. But, I can see it handy for a sideways winch, to hold a vehicle steady, in a bad situation.

I've got one, used it once to move a chook shed. Next time I'll build a new shed instead.
Yep, same here, made up my own kit pretty much the same but use shackles instead of the bracket they supply.
Works ok, hard work and slow but its a landy thing so it's in keeping with that I guess. More use around the block than vehicle recovery for me, and find that chain blocks get me out of most pickles.
The other one I like was called a "bush winch" or "flip flop" winch that popped up in an old book of my dads. Was going to try and describe it but hey, its 2016, youtube linky it is.
