B1900D Gear damage

I was on late shift and waiting for the last B1900D to arrive when I was told it was broken on the runway. I went and had a look and there it was, one leg broken and the other nearly. Inside were two rather shocked and ashamed pilots.
They had tried to land short to get off at taxiway "Alpha" but had hit the lip at the start of the runway instead and broke the RH dragbrace and pulled the wheel and brake assembly off the leg. This was later found a few hundred meters away against the airport fence and subsequently sat back in place to recover the aircraft.
The LH leg oleo strut was bent to nearly right angles to give a trailing link.
We finally got it up and recovered to the hangar for repairs.
The aircraft was brand new with only about 250 hours total time.
There was no maintenance of the over run at the end of the runway and there was a metre drop at the end, which gave quite a large lip which the caught with the gear.

It was two captains. The captain flying admitted he stuffed up and got a position in another operation.
The other one denied any involvement and was immediately terminated.

Nor do I as I retired from there in 2011. I enjoyed the 10 years I spent in Africa but was enough for me in the end.
