Tire size/speedo

Hi guys,Just got a 2009 d3 se, it has 255/55/19s and l was looking to put a set of 275/70/17s on it with a 2" lift.
Will his affect my speedo or can the speedo be adjusted?

From memory when I had my D3 with 265 70 17's the speedo was out by about 2- 3%.

So 275's will be worse.

You may struggle with the 275's depending on rim sizes, 50 diameter increase etc.

Shows a 7% increase. That will greatly affect the speedo and, I believe, will be illegal.

Regarding the 2" lift - the vehicle has electronic air suspension so what you need to look at is this

Dont know if anyone on here uses johnson rods, but a number use GOE rods (also available from Gordons website). The benefit of GOE is you can get 2 or 3 height settings in them - lift it to put you play tires on then lower it again for your run to the shops. The next step up is Llams as mentioned above. Both are aussie products too, whereas Johnson Rods are USA (i think)

With the goe lift rod, can they be installed full time.
On road/off road.
Also, on the tire list above it says that 285 tires my be an option, to big?

Lee, have a look at the documents at this link. They provide details of the wheel arch mods etc that are required to fit certain 275 and 285 width tyres.

Most people with the GOE rods run them on the vehicle all the time but at the normal factory height setting until the extra height is required in offroad situations.
The same is true for people running the Llams electronic suspension control module, which is an alternative to rods.

You can expect to shorten the life of suspension components if you stay at offroad height full-time. The other thing to consider is under certain fault conditions the suspension will drop to access height (low) and even potentially to almost the bump stops. So there is a risk that the larger tyres could become jammed within the wheel arches. This is apart from legality/compliance issues with larger wheels that you may want to look in to.
