rear "hatch" lock / canopy rod lock

I am making up a lift-up upper tailgate lid - like the sallyman. (see pics - not mine)

I have a cactus series cat flap and a county door for parts and am on my way to making it workable.

The current fiddle is the lock/latch mechanism. The series lock is too bulky and doesn't neatly fit in the lower profile rear edge.

It should still engage at both sides so the upper tailgate stops the lower one from opening

I had imagined that an off-the-shelf solution would be available from companies supplying those making canopies/toolboxes/caravans etc but have found google unhelpful.

Who sells the mechanisms and what are they properly called?

    Try searching under,
    Extending bar lock,
    Extending rod lock,
    Two point bar lock,

There are a fair few options out there, but mainly Chinese cheap stuff....
I helped make a two point bar lock for a series door similar too the photo that you posted, but used pieces from an old fire door lock.

The classic Range Rover used a similar mechanism, although the handle they use might look a little out of place on your cat flap.
