Sorry for the new thread - This encompass many existing threads... including the swearing rules.

Basically, Our 2011 HSE 3.0 has just gone out of its 5 year warranty.
Done 168,000 kms - All good. No major issues, basics fixed under warranty.

Majors done.
- Lower control arms - paid for of course
- Compressor (under Warranty)
- Aircon compressor (Warranty)

Have to do:
- Timing belts next service (body off) and $2,000
- What else do I do at this point?
- Tranny Flush (gearbox that is ) and new pan oil etc $1,150
- Suspect all air 4 air spring and shock assembly's* ($$$? )

Trade in will bust my ba77s for sure.
I would expect a no BS change over of 60- 70k. like for like
- Our MY11 HSE has the following:
- RSE (rear Seat Ent.)
- E Diff
- Surround Cameras
- Cold Climate pack (Why LR decide to make heated seats an option when a 20k Hyundai has them standard, and my Ford Ranger has them etc. is beyond me).
- Traxide Duel Batt.

Anyway. A new Disco will see me forking out a lot more $$ - Kids will mess up the inside any way.. (current Disco has lasted very well mind you and still looks good).

For say 5k + bit. the current Disco still does the job so well. I can reasonably expect it to last for 280,000 ? with out to much more major maintenance?

Or just bit it now and get a run out D4 before this model ends?

You may be unlucky and get hit with the inlet manifold problem amongst other things (like me). I will just keep fixing mine at this stage (as I said in another thread) as I don't want a new one yet and mine is set up the way I want it at the moment. Repairs are cheaper than the hit I will take on a new one anyway.

Sounds to me like you have almost answered your own question in your post.

My D4 HSE was bought new in Sep 2011 and now has 159,000km on the clock. It is a well sorted vehicle and is looked after by a competent Land Rover service agent. I will need to do the shocks / airbag bit in the near future and have the timing belt thing happening at the next service. I reckon the D4 will see the 280,000km mark......We still have our D2 (purchased new) at 257,000km as my wife's run around vehicle and the D4 is, in my view, a much better prospect for long term use subject to being maintained properly.

What I am saying is I am no longer keen to take the big depreciation hit.

But each to his own!

I'd say keep it if getting good value out of the up front cost is important. It has a lot of life left in it.

However, you are doing over normal km which is about 15,000km per year. It depends on a lot of factors particular to you. Those km make it a good time to trade up if are doing similar km.

I'd be surprised if the air suspension need replacing. My RRV is older and has nearly 250,000 km. Only shocks have been changed about 60,000km ago, which is easier on RRV as they sit outside the air spring.

It is a great car - best we have ever had. There have been no major issues at all. I get concerned about the major issues however - i.e. inlet manifold, electrics...

I talk about the struts because we 20kms of roughish roads (unsealed) every day, paddocks on the farm etc. Also gets a bit of road time each year (not harsh). does a lot kms as wife loves driving everywhere for no reason and in a relatively un-planned up-productive in efficient week of ... god only knows. (did I say that ) . given out location its just further to drive to go any where..
Ow and the car tows a horse float often enough... some times full at 2.5/3t..mainly much lighter with on nag on board.
Anyway. I drove a friends new HSE a few weeks ago - which BTW is back at dealers getting fixed after 2 weeks ownership!!! (water in exhaust, power down and limp mode) ... and its noticeable the compliance/feel. Not significant, but there. - asking a questions in another thread..

Others things getting done. Is there anything I am missing as budget for the 'overhaul'?

Having gone over 160k you've probably just had the biggest hit to your trade-in value so keeping it for a few more years probably makes the most sense financially. The next big hit will come at 10 years so move it on before then.

This isn't neccessarily what I would do - I tend to avoid logic when buying cars. Of course it really comes down to do you want a new one?
